25th lesson

25th Lesson

And finally we have completed our project and poster which concludes our project.
In this lesson we learnt about agricultural shows using powerpoint.

I learnt how they transform acres of open grass land into a show in which hosts animals for a number of days whist keeping them safe.

We also learnt about Westpoint arena and what processes it goes through to make it acceptable and efficient for events. for example it is normally a concreted floor however during events they put carpet down which makes it more comfortable for the visitors and keep it warmer which saves money. I know this because I have recently attended a UCAS exhibit event on Tuesday 20th March which was fun and interesting and very helpful. What stood out to me the most was the organisation they had stewards in the car park to direct people on where to park and upon entering the site we got given a leaflet with the layout of the event which I found to be very useful.

24th Lesson

During this session we started to look at the case study of the films itself and the franchise of Lucasfilmltd and the other film companies which worked with them such as 20th Century Fox which provided finance  and also Disney. We also looked at a marketing event which that conducted which was to get hundreds of people dressed up as star wars 'stomtrooper' characters along the great wall of china to reach out to a new demographic.

23rd Lesson

23rd Lesson

In this lesson we continued with our research of the film Star Wars The Force Awakens. We completed the contents page, the introduction and the 8 p's of marketing.

Introduction:
During this research project I would like to look at how ‘Star Wars The Force Awakens’ saturated the market and how they managed to do this so eloquently perhaps compared to others film such as British independent films. The film was released on December 17th 2015, it had been 10 years since the previous film in the story had been released therefore, they would have needed good marketing techniques to get consumers/target audience interested in the franchise again and would have to reach a wider demographic since a lot in the world has changed since the original Star Wars films were released in the 1970's-80's.

Marketing:
In general, marketing is a way in which companies/ businesses need to persuade the customer or consumer to buy the product or service in exchange for their money. Particularly in the film industry it is more of a challenge to market because it is not a physical product that the consumer would be walking away with, and in many cinemas where the film is available to see there are also many other films which are playing at the exact same time, so the company needs to make their film feel more unique and to persuade audience to spend their money on a ticket to watch that particular film over the other ones which are showing. In order to do this, they need the money to market the film through the use of synergy and technological convergence.
8P'S Of marketing:
In business it is essential for marketing to use the 8p’s. This method shows where your marketing takes place, how much products should be sold at, how to promote it and so on. One key part of the 8p’s is price, to help compare products or services to competitors. This is good for marketing as making the price higher than competition has priced it as will decrease sales. On the other hand, there is always a gap in the market in different markets for different prices. Seeing that there are no other expensive and high-quality products in a market for example is a good way to make money. There is always going to be people wanting either high quality products and also low quality too. An example is a Motorola phone is very cheap to buy but there are way more people with apple phones which can be 5 times the price.
Product is also key about marketing as without a USP or differentiating from other competitors the business will not have a high chance of succeeding. All businesses need something unique about them, customers all have different tastes. With this product side of the 8p’s you can find out if there is a gap in the market for a certain product. Starting a company which is the same as another will not work due to high loyalty to that service or product, meaning low amounts of customers and purchasing.
The final two main p’s are promotion and place. Place is all about where the product should be sold.  This takes into account the target audience and market as customers need to be able to reach the company easily. For example, if a company is renting out kayaks, the company would want to be near a beach. On the other hand, a corner shop would want to sell in an estate or near a lot of houses instead of in the countryside. Promotion is also quite similar but instead it’s about how to gain your target audience’s attention. Examples of this are advertisement or loyalty schemes or even offers like buy one get one free. This engages the target market and grabs their attention as they are interested due to the company being very close to the audiences needs.
The other 4 P’s are people, process, productivity and physical evidence. People is all about the company’s employees, founders and culture. This is basically the insights of the business and who runs it. Process is about complains, response time and service delivery. This overall is about how the company copes with customers and how well they are treated. Productivity is all about how well staff work and how efficient the business. For example, this could be to do with how many burgers are made on average by one person over an hour in McDonalds. The last one is physical evidence which is customers stories, recommendations, how they view the business and how they are presented with products and services by a business. An example of this is a layout of a store or how the store looks in the customers eye.

22nd Lesson

22nd Lesson

Due to not much getting done with our group because our timetables are all different so it is difficult for us all to meet up, we have decided to split the group into 2 so me and James went to work on a written project of ours.

Because of my interest in marketing which is something that attracted me to take this course, I chose to do something to do with Marketing therefore, I started to research some successful film marketing and the reoccurring film was Star Wars The Force Awakens so I will be starting our project on this focusing on the promotion side of it and also having an overview of he 8 marketing P's.

21st lesson

21ST Lesson

In this lesson we met up and distributed group roles. I would be in charge of Marketing and making the poster, James would do the risk assessment Leo would be in charge of getting equipment and Jack would be in charge on contacting MIND to get promotional banners to advertise the stall so people knew what the money was for.

For my marketing part I have thought of a few ways in which I could attract people. Through the use of social media perhaps I could post the stall details onto the Tesco Facebok page, also could use other formats such as twitter and snapchat to post the location. I would also be making a poster which I will put up in tesco and surrounding areas a week before which would get the event acknowledged.

20th Lesson

20th Lesson

When conversing with my group today I wanted to sort out the possible locations of were we could hold our event. We came up with a few ideas:

- A college site

- Princess hay

- Guild Hall

- Northenhay gardens

However since one of our group members works at Tesco we thought that perhaps we could compose a letter to his manage to see if we could set up the stall in the foyer so people would walk past it before they go in the store.

19th lesson

19th lesson

Once again in this session I met up with the rest of my group to discuss what we could do for our event. We made some progress in the fact that we would like to do a raffle stall which would be easier thing to set up what we would need would be raffle tickets which come in twos so one of the numbers would be scrunched up in a bucket and the other one would be on the items that wins and we thought we could have a prize for every even number that got chosen.

From here onwards we were focusing on our new projects.

I have joined a group with people in the other class; me, James Leo and Jack.
This is our first session together were we speculated our ideas of what we could do. Our initial thoughts are that we would like to do another event type thing for the charity MIND since that is the main charity of Exeter College. Some of our ideas included:

- a raffle stall (instant)

-   cake sale

- donated xmas gifts

- apple bobbing

- guess the amount of sweets in a jar

-  guess the name of the teddy

OUR CHARITY EVENT

For our charity event we sold sweets in a cup for £1 for one size to start off with. Dannah and Lucy (seen in photo above) set up the stall and the 'Mind' advertising banners and balloons etc. They were there for the first half whilst Alex and I took over the second half and tidied away the stall and banners.

Our stall was going god however, we experienced  problem which was we only had around 13 cups out which limited our maximum profit to only £13. Therefore, to resolve this problem we then got smaller cups and filled those and sold them at 50p so we could increase our profit margin. This worked well for us because some people preferred to buy the 50p cup so we extended our range of product to suit the customer preferences.

In the end we ended up raising £17 of profit for the charity MIND which I was pleased with. Perhaps if we could have done this again, to improve we could have started off with the range of cups in the first place.
For our group project I was in charge of the poster. Because of the time of year I chose to make it a christmas themed since I thought it would entice people more because if could have created a nostalgic affect of the atmospheric feeling of christmas and all the excitement leading up to it. I also out the price of the pound coin being there because as I am aware and which MIND is aiding is some people may had like to buy one of the sweet cups but because of such mental illnesses like social anxiety it is difficult to ask therefore, I put it directly in the middle so everyone knew exactly how much it was and despite us being friendly and smiling at the stalls if they were too anxious to speak then we would have understood this is why I decided to put an image of the price on there.
